Hello wonderful list,

Do any of you have curriculum or materials related to succession planning that you would be willing to share? Or any really successful cases of succession planning you're aware of? We've gotten a number of requests for such programming, and I would love to see what other folks have done as I'm planning the curriculum. I'll obviously cite and appropriately credit any shared sources if I use them.

Thank you!
Kate

Dear UALE colleagues,

We would like to invite you to apply
https://teachingsocialaction.org/social-action-events/indiana-25-institute-on-teaching-social-action
to the virtual Winter '26 Institute on Teaching Social Action on January
9-11, 2026 (1-5:30 PM EST). Today, many college courses teach about
democracy and change, but few courses provide students the opportunity to
learn by doing them. The Winter* '26 *Institute meets this need by
providing faculty the necessary training to teach social action.

The registration-free Winter* '26 Institute *will be led by Bobby
Hackett, President of the Bonner Foundation, and Scott Myers-Lipton,
Professor Emeritus of Sociology at San José State University, who developed
a social action course in 2006, and taught it 30 times. Checkout our
website to learn more about our social action model, as well as explore the
30 Fall '25 social action courses https://teachingsocialaction.org/courses,
along with 20+ student-led campaigns
https://teachingsocialaction.org/campaigns happening right now.

Here is what Arun has to say about the training:

“The Institute was one of the most effective uses of my time in my 30+
years in higher education. The Institute provided a structure and the tools
to implement social action in an organized and meaningful way as a part of
the educational experience. I left the Institute invigorated, armed with
new knowledge and tools. I wondered where the Social Action Institute had
been all of my higher ed life.”

The application deadline is due on Monday, December 19th. If January
9-11th doesn't work for you, please consider applying to one of our
in-person and virtual Institutes https://teachingsocialaction.org/events.

We hope you apply!

Kindly, Scott
