Dear UALE colleagues:
See the blurb and flyer from UNITE HERE Local 274 (eastern PA) below. It
could be a valuable experience for students and recent graduates interested
in getting involved in the labor movement.
Please feel free to share it with students and circulate among networks
that you think would find it of interest. There is a zoom info session on
Wednesday evening that prospective applicants can attend.
UNITE HERE LOCAL 274 IS HIRING
UNITE HERE Local 274 is focused on organizing non-union workers across
eastern Pennsylvania (we just recently won recognition at Lehigh
University, a shop of nearly 300 Sodexo workers located less than a mile
from the Bethlehem Steel plant); engaging with voters about working class
issues rather than just candidates (we are fighting for a ballot
initiative which would give workers in Allentown a minimum of nine sick
days a year); and persuading swing voters to break with MAGA candidates
in three crucial congressional districts. The aim is to build centers of
regional political power rooted in the union and will outlast any
particular election cycle.
*To do this work at the scale that is necessary we need more people! *We
are hiring a number of paid positions - $20 per hour with benefits and
housing. This is a great opportunity for students and recent graduates
interested in getting involved in the labor movement.
Those interested in applying can attend a Zoom info session April 9th at
7pm. Please RSVP for the info session here
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XB9TYQ7.
The application form for the position is available here
