Dear HELU members,
We’re writing to share a call for a special month of events with a partner organization, the Kalmanovitz Initiative.  It’s coordinating Labor Spring 2023 -- a series of local teach-ins, events and actions on campuses, in schools and in communities across the nation.  The bulk of events will happen between March 20 and April 21.  Local committees will plan and implement the teach-ins and events, and can sign up to be part of the national effort.
Here’s the initial website for Labor Springhttps://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flwp.georgetown.edu%2F9404-2%2F&data=05%7C01%7Caimee.loiselle%40uconn.edu%7C9b001a99e35448d5d69b08daf95c45cd%7C17f1a87e2a254eaab9df9d439034b080%7C0%7C0%7C638096471975453584%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C2000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=iIakCe27Xk%2BJDM0hvvSv6D7Jxsz2uEfb2jUGHv9FTjs%3D&reserved=0 and the Kalmanovitz Initiative will continue to update it.  It includes a listing of the initial organizing committeehttps://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flwp.georgetown.edu%2Fannouncements%2Flabor-spring-planning-committee%2F&data=05%7C01%7Caimee.loiselle%40uconn.edu%7C9b001a99e35448d5d69b08daf95c45cd%7C17f1a87e2a254eaab9df9d439034b080%7C0%7C0%7C638096471975609815%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C2000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=Lxx9vYuT7KQdnGjR%2BpVOcXbZRDSN6m3gfWmsplEie0I%3D&reserved=0.

Hello, UALE friends -

I am writing on behalf of the Outreach Committee of Higher Education Labor United (HELU, higheredlaborunited.orghttp://higheredlaborunited.org). We are finding, as we draw in more local unions and organisations that represent workers in higher ed, that there is a need for basic labor education. We want to compile a list of places we can refer them to. We have been referring them to the national EWOC trainings and Jane McAlevey’s Organizing for Power workshops on https://www.rosalux.de/en/o4p but it seems to me that this would be an obvious place for college or university-based labor education programs to step in, too.

This would most typically be a multi-session intro to labor fundamentals, directed at any worker in higher ed (meaning tenure line, clerical, hospital/med school, IT, custodians, adjuncts, etc etc), in line with HELU’s wall-to-wall and coast-to-coast organizing mission. It would probably be offered on line and might include groups from states where there are no higher ed collective bargaining enabling laws.

We look forward to hearing from you —
