Hi all,

I thought there might be some interest here in the progress of The Drivers
Cooperative, which is a driver-owned rideshare cooperative I developed in
New York City that is seeking to address the problems of the gig economy.
We have had some success and we are looking for partners who want to launch
similar efforts in other cities.

We just released our Annual Report with an overview:
http://drivers.coop/s/TDC_AnnualReport2023_3.pdf

Here are some of the highlights:

• Established a $30/hr minimum wage for drivers
• Over $5.2 million paid out in wages
• Built an app that we're ready to share with cooperatives everywhere (download
it here http://drivers.coop/download)

Hopefully our story can help counter the lies of companies like Uber and
Lyft that claim it would be impossible to provide basic employment rights,
and threaten to leave markets entirely when faced with even minimal
regulations to protect workers. If we can do it as a tiny worker co-op,
they can certainly do it. For that matter, it would be relatively easy for
municipalities to simply provide a rideshare service as a public utility
and ensure that workers have basic rights in the process.

Here is some news coverage with additional details:
https://nextcity.org/urbanist-news/new-yorks-driver-owned-ride-hailing-app-is-putting-its-foot-on-the-accelera

If you are interested in collaborating on building a driver-owned
cooperative in your cities, please fill out our interest form:
http://drivers.coop/federation, or email me at erik@drivers.coop.

in cooperation,
Erik
