Education and Training Department
SEIU Local 1000, a progressive public sector labor union, represents approximately 100,000 California state employees in ten different bargaining units. Represented employees include professionals, educators, nurses and administrative and support employees. We have approximately 150 employees who work in six offices throughout the state. Our mission is to engage, mobilize and represent our members to effect social and economic change for all.
Local 1000 is seeking applicants for a management position as a Training Director.  This position is based in California for our Training Department and is responsible for all aspects of our training programs for our leaders and staff. The Training Director is a high profile role within Local 1000 and reports directly to our elected leadership.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in maintaining and developing a large training program that provides tools and activities, using different formats, to enhance understanding and mastery of a wide range of topics. They will be able to provide oversight and record keeping experience to monitor the effectiveness of programs. They will have a background in adult learning strategies and how to implement them effectively to a diverse group of individuals with varying levels of technological abilities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Connect the concepts and theories of the training content to the real work and mission of the organization.
Serve as the education/training advisor to elected leaders and staff.
Responsible for development and implementation of coursework, including integration of interactive concepts and activities, and blended learning programs .
Lead in the development of the training programs w orking closely with subject-matter-experts to gather information on program needs.
Lead in the development of content and g raphic design of program materials, i ncluding testing and revisions.
Maintain both classroom and web-based training with a course catalog, skills tracking, testing and evaluation.
Create and facilitate trainings including recruitment for programs, coordinating schedules, and monitoring attendance .
Train members, leaders, and staff to present content to others (Train-the-Trainer).
Track individual learning progress through administration of pre and post-test evaluations.
Responsible for development and revision of written processes.
Identify and coordinate outside training and educational materials and resources as needed.
Develop web-based and internet applications using Skillsoft and/or other publishing tools.
Write and present summary reports of progress to Directors and Officers.
Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

College degree in instructional development or related field.
Minimum 5 years experience of training program administration.
Instructional design and development experience preferred.
Minimum 3 years supervisory experience required.
Advanced project management skills with the ability to lead multiple complex projects.
Proficiency in understanding and analyzing industry information and terminology for inclusion in training materials.
Ability to assess the quality and applicability of training materials.
Demonstrated understanding of needs assessment and skills tracking.
Proficiency in understanding computer applications including Microsoft Office, web-based publishing tools, web conferencing and collaboration software.
Proficiency in understanding internet and smart phone technology and applications.
Superior interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and presentation skills.
Conversant in the role of the union movement and the goals of Local 1000.
Salary ranging from $7,916 to $13,170 monthly
