Dear Fellow Labor Educators,

It is with great joy that I invite you to join us in celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the University of Iowa Labor Center! Built by generations of labor, campus, and community leaders, the Labor Center serves a vital educational hub in our rural, Midwestern region where people from all walks of life come together to learn, share their experiences, and forge solutions to today's most pressing challenges facing working-class people.

In spite of years of fierce headwinds and the elimination of our university funding, the UI Labor Center is teaching a record number of classes and continues to launch and facilitate exciting initiatives. Each year, with only 2 full-time educators and a network of volunteer guest instructors, we teach over 2,500 participants in over 100 labor education programs on our campus and in communities across our region. We host a quarterly Organizers' Roundtable, co-founded and continue to support the Iowa BlueGreen Alliance, host a monthly Iowa Labor/Immigration Roundtable that provides critically important updates featuring national and state speakers, and lead a Quality PreApprenticeship Program that creates new pathways into construction Registered Apprenticeship JATCs.

Now, it's time to celebrate this unique legacy and recommit to its future, at this critical time for Iowa and the U.S. Here's how:

  1. Get your tickets now to attend our special 75th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, May 9 at 6pm in the International Ballroom at the Iowa Memorial Union in Iowa City. Tickets are $100 each to attend this gala event featuring a plated dinner, live music, and a celebration of the past, present, and future of the UI Labor Center.

  2. Give to support the future of labor education in rural America! Individual or organizational gifts in this milestone year will support in-demand classes for thousands of working people, accessible materials on workplace safety and legal rights, and transformative coalition initiatives. The Labor Center no longer receives recurring university or state funding, so donations play an essential role in sustaining this important legacy.

Visit our website at https://laborcenter.uiowa.edu/75th-anniversary-celebration to purchase tickets and sign up for sponsorships. You can also find more information on the attached flyer.

We appreciate your friendship and look forward to celebrating with you in May!

As part of the celebration, why not set up an Iowa labor history site?
We did one in Maryland and want to see every state.
