Mark was one of the few labor educators who have been elected to leadership within their state AFL-CIO...Barbara Byrd being the most recent example I know of. Mark together with George Boyle, head of the University of Missouri's labor education program, and Ed Czarnecki, with the AFL-CIO's Education Department, played a critical role in convincing the administrators at my university that they'd benefit by the establishment of a university based labor education program prior our start in 1980. Mark was smart, driven, and "out spoken." The Nebraska labor movement is better for his contributions both as a labor educator and a labor leader in our neighboring state. - John

Hello Tess / UALE,
A friend, Dave Staiger, is looking "for a video clip on member
mobilization, member-to-member networking and/or one-on-one to show at
our union meeting (Kalamazoo Education Association). Please let me know
if you have a recommendation on youtube, electronically..." Any ideas?
Dave is cc'd here, and/or I can pass along any recommendations.
Thanks, Steve Babson, Detroit
I helped produce a video called Power @ Work which is about building a member to member network when I was in the IBT Ed Department in the 1990's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8R-b_a1nMU
Later AFSCME made an excellent video, inspired by the IBT video, with focus on the Member Action Teams used by AFSCME Local 3299 in California.

Hi All,
I agree that Ken's video and the AFSCME version are very good. I'd also add an old but excellent AFL-CIO video (especially the first two clips featuring a bad/good one-on-one) which is available here: https://vimeo.com/11821443
The AFSCME video is the "Power at Work" segment of AFSCME's Local Union Leadership Academy DVD. I think you have to contact AFSCME's Education Department to request a copy - I haven't seen one online.
