Dear UALE Friends,
Greetings from the Labor Center at the University of Iowahttps://urldefense.com/v3/__https://laborcenter.uiowa.edu/__;!!BDUfV1Et5lrpZQ!XP9jL44lVbufeVcy_f0VNyEBYdmZ2BWQ_lz2A9OE38I1HuNLbpl5WMX8PVy5XYc24FnPcu4Og6k9EqCIWJ_iIPmFbJxvDyC5mfNL$! I'm reaching out to spread the word about an opening for a labor/employment lawyer to serve as a labor educator in our longstanding university-based labor education program. The Labor Center is housed in the UI College of Law, and we are currently celebrating our 75th Anniversary of conducting noncredit legal rights and leadership education for labor leaders, rank and file workers, and workers' centers across our state and the U.S.
Thanks to generations of relationship building and experienced educators, our program has an outsized impact. We conduct nearly 100 classes and institutes for over 2,500 participants each year on workplace legal rights, representation, bargaining, organizing, and arbitration skills; and a variety of labor-related leadership and policy topics. Each year, we host several large statewide and national labor leadership conferences on our campus, as well as scores of customized programs in local communities and at regional conferences. We also lead labor-community projects such as an annual pre-apprenticeship program in partnership with the building and construction trades council and several local nonprofits.
The position replaces a longtime colleague who is retiring. It is an adult education position requiring a JD or equivalent and experience with labor organizations in bargaining and arbitration; in addition to teaching, the position involves applied research, program coordination, and collaboration with College of Law clinic faculty and students on community-engaged labor/employment law research. Our staff is highly collaborative, each with decades of commitment and experience in the labor movement.
