**Seeking nominations for UALE Executive Board members!** **President:**

Amanda Pacheco, IBEW
I am running for re-election as president because I would like to continue working with the board to serve this community of labor educators. The work that this community does is necessary, and it makes a difference. I believe that we have the opportunity to lift it up and make broader connections to assist one another in addressing the challenges facing working people. As someone who has been on the board in different capacities since 2016, it’s an honor to be a part of UALE, and I’m asking for your support to continue serving as your president.

Vice-President - Higher Education:

Zach Cunningham, Climate Jobs Institute at Cornell ILR
I work at Cornell ILR's Climate Jobs Institute, where I facilitate educational programming for union leaders and members about the climate crisis and building a resilient, equitable, and unionized clean energy economy. For the past two years I've had the honor of serving on UALE's Executive Board as Northeast Regional Representative. During that time, I led the planning efforts for UALE's first NE regional conference, which introduced several academics and trade unionists to our organization. I also worked to build our NE email list and increase communication about job and educational opportunities in the region. I am excited to take on new leadership responsibilities within UALE, including an increased role in building membership and planning our next international conference.

Vice-President – Unions:

Adrian Williams, AFSCME
Greetings UALE family. As a current board member, I think it’s important that we continue to maintain institutional knowledge on the board while ensuring we build up the next generation of leaders. Over the past four years, I’ve counted it an honor to serve as a member at large and UALE secretary. My aims for Union Vice President is to leverage my position as Assistant Director of AFSCME’s Education and Leadership Training department to increase labor Educator involvement from our Union siblings’ Labor Ed departments. I think that my current professional position provides me with the necessary strengths to be best utilized in this position.

Secretary:

Kate Shaughnessy, AFL-CIO
As a member of the UALE Board, I have had experience with planning mid-year meetings, helping with summer school coordination, and the conferences. In this role as Secretary, I hope to continue the tradition of good internal communications within our awesome volunteer board so that we can create a stronger organization. I also hope to bring my love of labor education to bear as we plan future gatherings and support regional work.

Treasurer:

Guillermo Morales
I have served as UALE Treasurer for approximately two years. In that time, I have been a good stewards of Association resources. I have implemented efficient systems and processes for various Treasurer related duties, such as transitioning UALE to online accounting and bookkeeping platforms. I also increased transparency through the creation of online cloud based access to financial reports and budgets for UALE Board members. Should I be reelected, I will continue work towards increasing the efficiency and resiliency of Treasurer related functions. Thank you.

Union Representative:

John Lepley, USW
I work in the United Steelworkers’ Department of Education and Membership Development. For the past 13 years I’ve been fortunate enough to work with and learn from experienced labour educators. Several of them, particularly Nancy Lessin and Charley Richardson, were associated with the UALE. I value this organization’s combination of practical experience with theory and argument, and the community of learning it creates among educators based in higher education, unions, and community organizations. The UALE and the Labor Studies Journal have been valuable sources of continuing education for me and I hope to contribute to that effort as the union-based representative.

Community Representative:

Sherman Henry, Jobs with Justice

Higher Ed Representative:

Todd Lu, UNC Chapel Hill
I am a PhD Candidate in Sociology at UNC Chapel Hill. For the past two years, I have served as Chair of the UALE Membership Committee to ensure continued membership support by organization and individual sponsors. I have served as Higher Ed Rep for the past year, at UALE E-Board, helping to organize our 2023 Convention. I aim to continue this service and reach out to university labor center leaders to identify how best UALE can support labor in higher ed.

At-Large Canadian Representative:

Patricia Chong, Professional Institute of Public Service of Canada (PIPSC)

At-Large Representatives (2):

***

Doug Swanson, University of St. Louis Missouri
After over a quarter of a century in the labor movement, from steward to Executive Director and everything in between, Doug pivoted his career 6 years ago to work for the University of Missouri Extension, as a field specialist in labor and workforce development, and the University of Missouri St. Louis, as the coordinator and instructional staff for the Labor Studies Certificate. As such he brings a wealth of experience and perspective to the board.

US Midwest Regional Representative:

Aliqae Geraci, Walter P. Reuther Library, Wayne State University
I currently serve as the Midwest Representative and would be delighted to continue. I am currently the Director of the Walter P. Reuther Library at Wayne State University in Detroit, and hold a BA in Labor Studies from Empire State College, and an MA in Labor Studies from the now CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies. If elected to a new term, I would prioritize information-sharing across UALE's individual and organizational members in the Midwest, promote UALE membership to Midwestern labor educators, and work with Midwestern members to support and identify a new host for the Midwest Union Women's Summer School.

US Northeast Regional Representative:

Elizabeth Pellerito, University of Massachusetts Lowell
I have enjoyed my time as the current Vice President for Higher Education on the UALE Board, and I would look forward to continuing to serve UALE as the Northeastern Rep. I remain committed to developing UALE and to welcoming a new generation of labor educators to the organization, as well as to thinking about how we grow and diversify our field in meaningful ways.
